To get some constructive criticism and help off my peers, I created this page on Padlet which allows me to store my Double page spread, contents page and front cover on a blank wall and produces sticky notes in which my peers can write notes and some changes in which will overall benefit my magazine. FINAL MUSIC MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGE
This is my final music magazine contents page. When designing my first page I was not overall satisfied with the outcome of my magazine. I tried to produce my product like something of a VIBE contents page however, when I developed research I found that the NME contents page looked much more efficient and professional, therefore, I decided to change it and aim it towards something of the same content of an NME contents page.

Music magazine front page draft
This was my first daft of my music magazine. I received constructive feedback from my peers telling me to consider the colour of the text against black areas as it contrasted too much against each other. Also, they informed me that the colour and font of my date made it barely readable so therefore I changed this before my final edition of my music magazine front cover.
Music magazine edited photo's
This is my before and after photoshoot for my double page spread. As you can see the image on the left was prior my editing. I used the shot healing tool on Photoshop to correct some blemishes. I also used the clone stamp tool to remove some white specks that were on the hat. In order to give this photo the almost sepia type effect, I changed the colouring of the photo on Photoshop and used a bronze tint colour to create this effect.
Music magazine photo shoot
The images above are of the photshoots I completed for my music magazine. I took multiple photo's, saved them as J pegs and then chose the ones I was going to use and edited them accordingly.
Photo shoot for Prelim task
font used for masthead
This is the masthead I used for my final magazine front cover. I chose the magazine name 'beat' as It has an obvious connection to music, and I believe it has a resemblence in the R&B genre as; Most R&B music have a strong beat to thier sound. I chose the font 'Beethoven' as I believe it was a more modern style font and stands out against any background.

Double page spread music magazine mock up
This is the image of my final double page mockup for my music magazine. I created this on publisher and I aspire my magazine to hold some layout which is featured here.
Front cover music magazine mock up
Music magazine contents page mock up
This is a rough draft of what I would like my contents page to look like. I recieved inspiration from the music magazine 'VIBE' for this, for example, the use of the letter V is featured on most VIBE contents poages to reinforce the reader that they are infact reading from a VIBE magazine. Therefore, I used this in my contents page but altered it to 'B' to resemble my magazine BEAT.
VIBE front cover analysis
This front page consists of a mainly black and red colour scheme. There is evidence of some white features for example the background and the shirt Beyoncé is wearing. The use of the red is to stand out against other texts, for example, the masthead-VIBE completely stands out as it against a white background and is the largest font size, this is to re-inforce the reader that they are reading a VIBE magazine. The main text reads "Beyoncé strips down for summer" This symbolises the picture and gives some insight to the reader of what articles may be featured.

Target audience
The target audience of my music magazine will be aimed at a more youthful audience. The genre of R&B is usually targeted at that young teenage boy who spends his time playing basketball and spending time with his friends. He will spend his money on luxurious clothes and the newest sneakers out. He admires his music and listens to it daily with his Dre beats. He is into his sports and has a passion for basketball.
Initial research into music magazine genre
My chosen genre for my music magazine will be R&B. I chose this as I believe it is a style of music I enjoy listening to, and I believe my interests in this style of music will help me in producing my music magazine. My magazine would be targeted at a range of people, but mainly of a youthful age gap. My genre is targeted at both males and females as I have found through research it is targeted towards both genders. The r&b genre is usually soul music and many of its artists are of African American race. The r&b music can often be affiliated with rap, and often both styles are portrayed in one song, an example of this is; Beyoncé ft. Jay z: Crazy in love.
VIBE double page spread analysis
The image above is of a double page spread featured in the music magazine VIBE. As you can see the imagery is more dominating in this article, I believe this is a key focus as it automatically attracts the reader and does not distress the reader with too much writing. The colour scheme uses rather solid simple colouring, for example, The large text 'USA' in the background uses a matte coloured shade which makes it stand out amongst the background but still keeps it ton with the bland colouring. The remaining text used is in a simple black font. The text uses a 'drop cap' which I believe allows a sense of professionalism to the text. The only striking colour in the text is the red and white striped flag in which Florence is sitting on, this is to reinforce the main text of the text 'USA.' Florence also has red hair which fits in nicely with the touch of red colouring on the page. There is serif writing used which adds a more traditional feel to the text. The article is split into 3 columns which I believe splits up the writing and makes it seem less overpowering and overbearing.
Fonts
For my final coursework I used a range of different fonts. For my masthead I used the font 'BEETHOVEN' as I believed it gave a more modern and overpowering position on my front page. I got this font from the website 'Urban fonts' which had some very interesting font styles. The webpage for this is http://www.urbanfonts.com/fonts/beethoven.htmhttp://www.urbanfonts.com/fonts/beethoven.htm

Prelim Photoshop pictures
This is the image after Photoshop. I only made some minor changes as I still wanted it to seem realistic, therefore, I changed the mud along the front to give it a cleaner look. Also, I edited some minimal defects like a random strand of hair which allowed the photo a more professional, higher standard take.
The images above are of before and after Photoshop. The image on the left is prior the Photoshop. As you can see I have made some small changes, for example, I have darkened out the white spec on the jumper. I also edited the contrast to enable it to be a bit brighter. Also, I have used the spot healing brush tool to edit out some blemishes on his face. I also used the clone stamp tool to edit the chairs and give them a more cleaner, brighter look.
This is the image I used in my Prelim task. I edited this on Photoshop but only in a few ways. For example, I cropped its size as I thought there were outside irrelevant objects making it seem less professional. I did however keep in the compulsory components for example; I kept in the medical equipment as I believe it emphasised the idea that it was a science experiment.
Newsletter contents page Mockup
This is the image of the general display I want my Deyes High Newsletter contents page to be like. This will help me when producing my final draft as I can follow it through and adapt certain things if necessary.

VIBE Contents page analysis
This is an image of a VIBE contents page. The image shows Kanye West in a black and white theme with someone clutching onto a deliberately displayed heart on his chest. This is to represent his album 'heartbreak' There is some typical graphology featured, for example, in every VIBE magazine the contents page is displayed in 3 parts- 'CO' 'NTEN' 'TS' This is the typical discourse of the contents of this specific magazine. along the side there is the subheading 'features' with all the articles that are featured in the magazine displayed below. There is a second subheading of 'fashion' which indicates this music magazine may not be solely based on music. In the background there is the letter 'V' this is to reinforce the viewer that they are reading a VIBE magazine. The writing consists on sans serif and serif fonts which allows a more modern and traditional style.
VIBE music magazine front cover analysis
The image above is of the music magazine VIBE. This is one of the most notorious magazines featuring the R&B genre so I chose to analyse it as I believe it will enable me to have a clear idea of what I want my music magazine to look like. The front page consists of a orange and white colour theme. The image features Nicki minaj wearing a white and silver dress-which is plain like the background. Then with orange/red hair which links to the orange writing and masthead VIBE. There is some black writing used, this is to stand out against the white background. The main cover line reads Nicki Minaj notorious K.I.N.G. This is linked to the main image of the discussed artists Nicki Minaj. There is typical features on the front cover like bar code, price and date which you would expect from any magazine. The strap line reads PURPLE SUITS, WHITE KICKS AND A $30K DRESS. I believe this relates quite well to the R&B style genre as it represents expense and luxury It has specialised language 'kicks' This suggests that it may be aimed at a more youthful genre due to its language. The use of the jewellery and tiara suggest expense which is also suggested in the strapline. There is use of other cover lines that give some further insight to what may be included in the magazine.

Genre choice
For my music magazine, I will be using the music genre of R&B. I chose this as I have an interest in this field of music and believed my knowledge and familiarality of this music would help me when producing my magazine.
Moodboard
The image above is of my moodboard. It consists of mainly artists that are in the field of R&B music which is my targeted genre for my music magazine.

R&B front cover analysis
This is the fron cover of one of the most prestigious R&B magazine-VIBE. As you can see, the title is extremely petruding on this picture. This is to emphasise the masthead-VIBE. The masthead is in red writing, this is used for two reasons; to stand our on the plain background, and to keep within the colour scheme of mainly red and black typography. The most dominating part of this front cover is the image. There is one image of the rapper T.I. in a white suit and black tie. This again, cimpliments the colour scheme as it uses neutral colours so the writing stand out aswell. There is typical imagery of a bar code used and the date of issue of the magazine.
Questionnaire
This is my second page of my questionnaire. This follows on from the previous page and contains more detailed questions which will give me a more advanced understanding of how to edit my magazine to the right audience.

Theories
Laura mulveys male gaze theories
The concept of the gaze is one that deals with how an audience views the people presented.
For feminists it can be thought of in 3 ways;
Features of the male gaze
the camera lingers on the curves of the female body, and events which occur to women are presented largely in the context of a man's reaction to these events.
Relegates women to the status of objects. The female viewer must experience the narrative secondarily, by identification with the male.
Example: Scouting for girls: "I love the way she fills her clothes, she looks just like them girls in vogue" This is again discussing the curves and figure of a women which can be regarded as quite discriminative.

Newsletter mock-up
This newsletter mock-up is what I hope to achieve by the end of my prelim task. I hope to achieve something similar to this if not the same. Where I have left room for my photographs I will be taking my own for them. I will edit my photo's for this via Photoshop in order to achieve a professional look. This mock up I believe contains features of a magazine for example, it will contain a large dominating image in the centre of the page, It will have some secondary text of what will be portrayed in my newsletter, it will contain a puff and logo. It will contain the contents
of issues as well. I will however, make changes in order to apply it to a newsletter for example; I will use the same colour scheme throughout, academic specialised vocabulary and appropriate imagery.

Media prelim pictures
These are the chosen pictures for my Media coursework prelim task. I will edit them further through Photoshop in order to achieve a more professional take on them. I took these pictures myself as every picture must be from your own camera throughout this coursework. There was no problems when taking my photo's only that some never took as well as others, I will aim to take more pictures on my next lesson for my contents page. I will use the image of the footballers for my main image as my main article will be discussing the footballs teams victory of finishing first place in the sefton cup. I chose this image out of the rest as I believe it looks the most natural and spontaneous.

Photoshop Lesson
The images above show the pre-hand Photoshop task and what it looks like after. I have used the clone-stamp tool in order to achieve my finished piece. This tool allows you to clone a certain area and then cover over the desired area you wish to remove. This is how I achieved the removal of the remaining 5 bottles. When doing this you have to be careful what area you choose as it has to be exact to the area you are covering or it will not look real. This is why I chose different parts of the greenery in the background to make it look more realistic and as though there was nothing there to begin with.
For this image I used the polygonal Lasso tool, this should only be used on areas with a straight edge which was achievable here as we wanted a rectangle shape. Once I had selected by area i chose the black and white effect on the chosen area. I found this task especially simple as the polygonal lasso tool helped me achieve a straight edge unlike the lasso tool which was extremely hard in perfecting.
For this image I used the spot healing brush tool. I also used the Clone stamp tool to remove the shine of some areas, for this I selected an area of his skin with no shine to it and then cloned it on top of the unwanted area. For the spot healing brush tool, you have to get your circle just slightly bigger than the chosen spot and then click onto it to remove it. I found this task the easiest to do as it did not require any special skill.
