Ideology

Ideology is simply a collection of ideas behind a media text. Ideology is important as it decrees the presentation of the piece of media and establishes a specified audience.

 For my pre-lim task, I will be creating a Deyes High newsletter and will use a range of certain ideologies. The ideology of my newsletter will be expressed through various imagery that i will take myself, also, informative text that will appeal to my specified audience. I believe there are a range of certain features that should be expressed in my newsletter for example;

Care for students, this is an important idea to be featured as; it creates a safe and welcoming atmosphere that will appeal to any students considering attending Deyes High School. This can be expressed through imagery of a teacher and student together, showing a positive balance within the school.

Also, within the school newsletter, it is an important idea that I include the schools specialist subject, This will help to excel the school through the educational field and appeal to many admirers of the subject. This can be shown through text about the subject, for example; exam results of the subject and simply stating what the school specialises in, for example, Deyes specialises in science, therefore, I could collect a range of science exam results to help overemphasise the idea of a specialist science college. Also, this can be expressed through imagery, I could photograph images of science experiments and science facilities to give students an idea of the specialist subject.

Another key feature is the overall message of education. This is a necessity when designing my Deyes High newsletter as; it includes and engages the students, This can be shown through text of GCSE and A level exam results, also, imagery of students who have excelled in their results, this can give students a sense of achievement and accomplishment.

A further feature to include would be to discuss the idea of extra curricular activities for example; Netball team, football team, dance shows, etc. This would appeal to a variety of students then as it is not complete focus on academic prospects which students may find uninteresting.

I should also aim to include new technology that the school may have for example, Deyes High have recently invested in the Ipads for the use of students, This would appeal to students as it is something that is part of current youth culture, therefore takes a more modern outlook and instantly engages students. I could show this through imagery of pupils on the Ipads or on the Apple Macs and some secondary text about the new technology.

By using these variety of features, I hope to create an overall appealing newsletter that will contain a wide range of ideologies that will appeal to a student audience
